About

Backyard-Farm.org was created in response to the economic crisis currently affecting the United States and the world.

We seek to provide ideas and inspiration for people who wish to make some extra money at home to help their families through the crisis.

The majority of the small business ideas offered on this site are easy and inexpensive to start and require a relatively small amount of land, at least as first. We’ve made an effort to find as many business ideas as possible that are kid-friendly, for the kids and teens out there looking to make some extra pocket money, and also neighbor-friendly, so folks living on small acreages, or even in the suburbs, can also take advantage of these ideas.

Although we’ve made an effort to find jobs with minimal legal hassle involved and will attempt to notify you in our business descriptions of any especially pressing legal issues you may encounter, we are not lawyers and have neither the time nor the inclination to research every single possible legal problem in every single possible state or country. Before starting any of these businesses, be sure to research the legal requirements for operating such a business that may be involved in your state and country, as well as any relevant zoning laws, especially if you plan to start a business involving food production or livestock. Otherwise, you may find your business shut down or worse, sued. Protect yourself! Do your research!

In addition to helping people find interesting business opportunities and sources of extra income, we also have a broader goal. We believe that trickle down economics has failed and that it is now time to try our hands at trickle up wealth. By helping people increase their income and improve their self-sufficiency, we hope to help strengthen local economies and, eventually, the national and international economy as well.

What’s more, we hope to do so sustainably, by helping people create more resilient local economies that prize diversity and independence over corporate monotony and dependence.
